The Royal Mindset of Plenty

Updated: May 4, 2020

Jonathan and David were best friends. Even though Jonathan’s father Saul had become jealous of David and had tried to kill him, Jonathan remained faithful to David. Because of Jonathan’s great loyalty, David said this upon his death: 2 Samuel 1:26 NKJV “ I am distressed for you my brother Johnathan; you have been very pleasant to me; your love to me was wonderful, surpassing the love of a woman.”

In 2 Samuel chapter 9, David had become King and sought out the lineage of Saul’s household in order to bless them. He asked who else was left in the house of Saul for Jonathan’s sake that he might show kindness. Ziba was a servant in the house of Saul and he told King David that there was Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth who was lame in both of his feet. So King David asked Ziba to bring Mephibosheth to his court. When Mephibosheth came before the King he decreed that all of Saul’s (his grandfather) household and land should be restored to Mephibosheth. The King then decreed that Ziba should work Saul’s land so that Mephibosheth would have food to eat. Furthermore, he decreed that Mephibosheth would be welcome at the King’s table to eat continually.

The lame son of Jonathan, Mephibosheth, was abundantly provided for regardless of his inability to provide for himself. Not only that, the King restored to him all of his grandfather’s riches and land. So it is with God’s children. Regardless of our ability to become children of our Father in Heaven on our own recognizance, God the Father provided a way through the death and resurrection of His only Son Jesus Christ in order for us to become joint heirs - brothers and sisters of Christ - so that we might partake of the riches of the Father’s house. We are adopted into the kingdom of heaven and are given all that was given to the Father’s Son, Jesus. We are welcome at the Father’s table to continually partake of His abundance of provision.

In Philippians 4:12-13 (VOICE) Paul says “I know how to survive in tight situations, and I know how to enjoy having plenty. In fact, I have learned how to face any circumstances: fed or hungry, with or without. I can be content in any and every situation through the Anointed One who is my power and strength.” When we live from a royal mindset - knowing without a doubt that all our needs are met through the Lordship of Jesus Christ and faith in the promises of God’s Holy Word in our lives - there is no fear of lack.

Therefore, as joint heirs with Christ, all the rich promises in God’s Word is our treasury to draw from. The Word says the Father knows what we need in Matthew 6:32 b “For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things”; therefore, we know He is our Provider. Because we have become royalty, lacking nothing, we are unencumbered to give generously (and cheerfully, I might add) to those who are in need, regardless of the health of our bank accounts. Furthermore, we have the promise in God’s word that says in Luke 6:38 NKJV “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” We give, then God returns to us what we give, but in abundance.

In this time of uncertainty, let us as believers in Christ exhibit the opposite behavior of fear of lack, and operate in the royal mindset of plenty. Let us seek out those who might be struggling to provide food for their tables and invite them to our table. Let us give so that they may have plenty and share in the Father’s great generosity from His riches in heaven.
