Iron Sharpens Iron

So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

James 4:6 New King James Version (NKJV)

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Serve God with Spiritual Gifts

3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Philippians 2:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Pride blocks unity in the Body of Christ and the needed growth which is the fruit resulting from iron sharpening iron. In order to receive from one another we must first be humble, not think of ourselves more highly that we ought, and esteem our Brothers and Sisters in Christ better than ourselves. Without the character traits of humility, esteeming others better than ourselves, and not thinking of ourselves more highly than we should, we can never be One in the Body of Christ; we can never learn from one another.

Each one has nuggets of wisdom that they can contribute that the entire Body could benefit from. Some have strengths in areas others are weak in, and vice versa. We need each other to impart the wisdom and the experiences of our strengths. This is why God made different parts of the Body of Christ: Ears, eyes, brains, hearts, mouths hands, feet, and so on. Without the acceptance of each part of the Body of Christ, the Body will be fractured and not functioning the way the Father intended it to function.

We miss out on so much treasure each of us have in our hearts when we write each other off because of preconceived negative opinions of one another. The Lord has called us to submit to one another so that we can receive the deep understanding and knowledge that we ourselves might not posses - we enrich each other. But we put up walls of pride and arrogance and false judgement, we are not only hurting ourselves, but the entire Body of Christ.
