Beautiful Imperfection

There is beauty in our weaknesses and flaws. It reminds us of our need for a Savior. We are never going to be perfect in and of ourselves. Why? Because we were born to have areas of our lives that need the Shepherd's Rod to keep us in His path close to Him.

When a lamb strays from the fold the Shepherd leaves the other sheep and goes after the little one. When he catches the lamb he breaks its front leg. Then he puts it in what essentially looks like a baby sling across the front of the Shepherd's chest next to his heart. The lamb stays in that sling until it heals. When the lamb's leg completely heals it never leaves the Shepherd's side.

Sometimes our weaknesses cause us to stray far from the Savior's side. We think our strength is enough to sustain us away from His Presence. But we find out that our need for Him is much greater than we realize. We find ourselves hurting and empty, so we try to fill the inner void with anything that will sooth away the ache inside. But nothing completely satisfies the emptiness. We still need more. We then find ourselves at the end of our rope, alone, desperate for relief. But we never find it apart from total surrender to Christ.

Then a beautiful thing happens. We cry out from the depths of our darkness to the one true Light. The one true Savior. The Way. The Truth. The Great Physcian. Then He rides swiftly on the wings of the wind and pushes back the darkness with His glorious Light. He swoops us up in His loving Arms and speaks peace to our inner turmoil, love and acceptance to our loneliness, and pours His oil over our deep wounds and heals us. He holds us close to His heart and tells us we are His and He is ours - forever. He washes away all the guilt and shame that has sullied our soul and gives us clean white linen to wear. He washes our muddied feet with the water from the River of Life and places a crown of pure gold upon our head. He reminds us we are not beggars but royalty, joint heirs with Christ. He tells us He is ever with us and will never turn away.
